Rye Named Head Football Coach of the Bulldogs

In Rye’s 20 years of experience in education he has been a part of three football state championship games and has held several coaching assignments including: Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, Quarterback Coach and Receivers Coach. Rye has also previously served as a Middle School Athletic Coordinator and understands that the foundation of a varsity football program is built beginning in middle school. In addition to two different coaching stints at Burnet High School under three different head coaches, Rye also coached at 6A Midlothian High School where as Quarterback Coach he coached former Baylor QB and current Miami Dolphin Bryce Petty.

"Jerod's football acumen is outstanding, and even more important he is a natural motivator of people," said Superintendent Keith McBurnett. "There was no need to look very far when the head coaching position became open, because we had an outstanding candidate on our current coaching staff," said McBurnett.

Rye has shared that he believes that athletics is a great avenue in the educational process to teach life lessons to student-athletes, and that if we focus on making our kids better people and students first, we will see the results that we all desire on the athletic fields.

Rye is married to Stephanie, and they recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. They have two children. Their son, Cade, is a Sophomore at BHS and competes in Football, Cross Country, and Track. Their daughter, Lainey, is an 8th grader at BMS, and competes in Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball, and Track.

Coach Rye will assume his responsibilities in January 2019.
