Sharing the Promise

As you remember, Burnet Middle School was named the "Start with Hello" program Grand Prize Winner for their implementation, involvement, and ownership of the national initiative.

Ilena and Zo'e served as student ambassadors at the gala. During a reception before the gala, the girls shared what BMS did to contribute to the Start with Hello program with guests and government officials alike. They were recognized during the gala by Nicole Hockley and Mark Barden, founders of Sandy Hook Promise and parents of victims of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook school.

Also during the gala, BMS teacher Sara Te was a Voice of Promise speaker and told the guests, who included honorary guests Senators Susan Collins and Joe Manchin, how Start with Hello has impacted the BMS campus this year. Click on link below to view Mrs. Te's speech.

The students, their parents, and Ms. Te were invited and sponsored by Sandy Hook Promise to attend and visit sites in our nation's capitol. Highlights from the trip were the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National cemetery and touring the National Holocaust Memorial Museum as well as visiting national monuments and memorials.
