Andy Feild Leaves a Legacy in Burnet CISD

Andy had reflected on his own service on the Board and shared, “The term ‘giving back’ I believe is somewhat overused.  I prefer to say we are just ‘following in the footsteps’ of those that served before us.”

Superintendent McBurnett added, “Andy left large shoes for us to fill and set an outstanding example of what service above self truly means. The best way to remember Andy is for all of us to be more like Andy.”

Andy took great pride in the fact that all four of his children (Kally, Celeste, Tom, and Will) attended school in Burnet CISD from Kindergarten through 12th grade, and all graduated from Burnet High School.  He and his wife Martha were also proud graduates of Burnet High School. As a Burnet High School student, Andy was selected by the faculty as the 1965-1966 Best All-Around Male Student. Participation in extracurricular activities and his academic achievement were some of the factors considered when the faculty selected him. Andy served as a captain of the football team and as the president of the FFA.

After 32 years with the Texas Department of Agriculture, Andy retired and continued to farm and ranch in north central Burnet County. He was a past President of the Burnet County Fair and Rodeo Association and a past director with Rodeo Austin. Andy continued volunteering with those and other community groups until his illness.

Superintendent McBurnett concluded, “One of the highest compliments a person can receive is, ‘You made a difference.’ And there is no doubt that Andy Feild made a difference in countless lives through the way he lived his life and the way he served others.”
