School Supplies Provided for Students

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce that last night the BCISD Board of Trustees approved the purchase of basic school supplies for every student. We know that some of our BCISD parents are still working reduced hours or experiencing unemployment, and families are trying hard to stretch every dollar during the tough economy that has resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. As you know, many District events and instructional activities were cancelled or adjusted this past spring. Some of the money budgeted for those things couldn’t be spent, and was therefore repurposed to purchase supplies. We also received a few generous community donations. Those combined funds have allowed us to provide this one-year boost to our school community.

Families will still need to provide students with a personal backpack (and a lunch box if bringing food from home), as well as some course-specific items in certain middle school and high school classes. The District has purchased the items that were typically found on the published grade-level School Supply List. Basic supplies such as folders, notebooks, paper, pens, markers, crayons, scissors, and glue will be purchased on behalf of students and distributed to campuses to give students in the fall.

We have a generous community, and we are grateful for the support of our area churches, clubs, and civic groups. We can still use ongoing help this year. Be on the lookout for opportunities to volunteer to sort supplies (when we can plan for safe distancing). We may also need to provide a mid-year refresh of some supplies, depending upon the instructional needs of the fall semester.

We are still waiting for guidance and requirements from State leadership regarding school re-opening. We eagerly anticipate the day that we can put these school supplies in students’ hands in-person, on campus. Until that time, enjoy your summer, and please know that your children are loved and missed!
