The VFW Post 6974 in Burnet recently held a Voice of Democracy competition that involved BHS students writing an essay over a specific topic and also recording it as they read it aloud. The competition theme was "Why My Vote Matters."

Kindness is the Key

Shady Grove Elementary students in Mrs. Taylor's Gifted and Talented class recently read "Beauty and the Beast" and discussed the messages in the book. The Kindergarten through 2nd grade students explored cultural differences, judging others by their outward appearances, the “masks” that people sometimes wear, “masking” our emotions and the power that kindness towards others can hold.
