From Coach Shipley:

2/12/18

Monday night, the 8A Lady Dawgs closed out the basketball season with a great win in Llano! The girls came out feisty in a full court press and were able to shake up the Lady Daubers. The Lady Dawgs were patient and found great shots in the offense. The second half was all Lady Dawgs!! They dominated on both ends of the floor and played well as a team.

I am so proud of the growth this entire team has shown throughout this season.  They worked really hard and played through adversity and changing roles! I wish them all success in high school, whether they continue playing basketball or move on to different endeavors!  Way to go Lady Dawgs!!

From Coach Howard:

Our softball team had their first game against Pflugerville Weiss here at the Bulldog Diamond.  My young puppies came out of the gate a little nervous and made some early mistakes and got in a hole.  They battled back and got within one run before running out of innings and falling 9-7.  As we battle lots of injuries, sickness, sport conflicts and the like, all the girls are doing their best at growing and being better than they were the day before.  We take things one day at a time.

Shout out goes to Makenna Delill on her 3 for 4 at the plate as well as Stephany Garcia on her 2 for 3 effort.

We go to battle again tomorrow as a small group of young guns head to Killeen to play in a tournament.  I am proud of their efforts and you should be too...encourage them when you see these great young ladies.

From Coach Robinson:

The JV and Varsity squads competed well against Liberty Hill and Leander Glenn last night and Friday. For the Varsity, on Friday, Danny Lopez scored on a PK, and Julian Delgado scored a goal late in the game for a 7-2 loss to the Hill. Despite the score, the Bulldogs competed well throughout the game.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs traveled to Leander Glenn, where Tyler Torres scored an unassisted goal from 25 yards out, preventing the shut out. Great defensive effort was provided by Harrison Stewart, Donovan Seiley, Carter King, and Leo Landin. Other standouts included Danny Lopez, Romero Delgado, and Eduardo Medina.
The JV competed against tough competition, falling short in both games, but gaining experience and mental toughness in both matches.
The next district game will be here, this Friday, vs. the Taylor Ducks. JV will start 5:30, the Varsity will follow at 7:15.
GO DAWGS!

7th A Girls Basketball Results:

2/12/18

@Llano

Last night the girls took the short trip west to take on the Llano Lady Daubers. This is the final game of the season and so the girls were looking forward to finishing the season on a high note!  The game started at a snail's pace and at the half the girls held on to a 7-2 lead.  But in the 2nd half the girls completely took over the game at both ends of the court!  They really picked up the intensity and were able to cause turnovers and that allowed us to get things going offensively as well. The girls played as good of a 2nd half as they had played any half this season.  They really played great as a team and took 100% control of the game.  I could not be any prouder of a team than I was of these girls last night.  They all played so well and without a doubt left it all on the court and came away with a big win to finish up the season.  Love the girls passion and desire to become better each day not just as a basketball, but also at being awesome young ladies. Very blessed to have been able to coach and get know these girls.  Great group of young ladies!

I am so proud of all the hard work and dedication this group has put in this season!  They are so much fun to coach and be around.  I know they will continue to work hard and next year will be even better!  Hate to see the season come to an end, but the girls finished the season on a great note!

8th B Girls Results

Last Thursday night, the Lady Dawgs hosted the Lampasas Lady Badgers for the 2nd round of district. With the Lady Badgers only having one loss and the Lady Dawgs having two, we knew winning this would be a huge game, and a Lady Dawg win would put us tied for 1st place in district. The girls were so excited and ready to play! The 1st quarter started off a bit rocky with some bad passes and shots not falling, but the girls picked up the intensity a little in the 2nd quarter and managed to outscore the Lady Badgers for that quarter. At halftime, the Lady Dawgs were down by 4 and after some intense pep talks, they came out into the 3rd quarter on fire! We decided to press full court, and the Lady Dawgs were not going to let the Lady Badgers score anymore…they played the best defense I have seen them play all season! The entire second half was a point-for-point game. Emma Gonzalez’s 3 pointer put us up by 1 in the 4th quarter! The girls did a great job of stalling and passing the ball around the perimeter for the last minute of the game to lock in the win! The Lady Dawgs are now tied for 1st place in district! I say this every week, but I am so proud of this amazing group of girls and how they never give up even when it gets tough. The Lady Dawgs will host The Lady Mustangs of Marble Falls tonight (2/18) for their last home game of the season. Please come out and support your 8th grade Lady Dawgs! They love to make it entertaining!

From Coach Russell:

The Lady Dawg Soccer team just rounded out Pre - Season by defeating it's last 4 opponents, Jarrell, Little River Academy, China Springs, and Gateway College Preparatory.  They have scored an astonishing 28 goals for to only 4 against in these last 4 games.  There are important contributions coming from all over the field with a standout defense and goal keeper to a strong attack coming from the midfield to the attackers up top.  The Lady Dawgs will face their most difficult opponent this Friday in their district opener at home against that team from right down the road, Liberty Hill.  Varsity will be kicking off at 5:30 on Friday and JV kickoffs at 5:00 on Thursday.  Come out and support your Lady Dawg Soccer team!

From Coach Pegues:

What an exciting weekend at Texas A&M University!  Our qualifiers competed against 29 schools, around 400 swimmers, in the Region V-5A Championships.  All 11 of our swimmers competed on Friday evening at prelims producing some great results.  All 5 of our relays qualified for finals on Saturday night, placing in the top 16. Relay swimmers: Justin Orosco, Jordan Messer, Maczimus Griego, Ty Riley, Coley Kinsey, Ella Lawrie, Avery McCrory, Katelyn La Joie, Alexis Simpson, Jacey Huston, and Brynna Kirby.  Maczimus Griego (freshman) placed 18th in both of his individual events, the 50 Free and 100 Butterfly, hitting his best times of the season in both events.  Katleyn La Joie (junior) placed 15th in the 50 free and 10th in the 100 free, qualifying her to compete in finals on Saturday night.  Katelyn also hit her best times of the season on Friday night and broke the Burnet HS Record in the Girls 50 Free with a time of 26.12.  Avery McCrory (sophomore) competed well in her two events, the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke. Jordan Messer (freshman) hit his best time of the season by 2 seconds in the 100 Breaststroke.

The finals round was held on Saturday evening.  Katelyn La Joie finished 14th overall in the 50 Free and 10th overall in the 100 Free.  Our boys 200 Free Relay (Jordan Messer, Cole Kinsey, Ty Riley, Maczimus Griego) placed 12th and hit their best time of the season as a relay and in their individual splits. The boys 200 Medley Relay placed 14th, the girls 200 Free relay placed 14th and the girls 400 free relay placed 13th overall.  Burnet placed 17th in both boys and girls in the overall team standings and Katelyn La Joie placed 38th out of 200 female swimmers. It was a great weekend of swimming and the whole team closed their season with their best times!

Diving also took place on Saturday.  Angelica Orosco (freshman) and Jackson Lawrie (sophomore) competed against 9 other divers, some with a lot of experience, making it a tough competition.  Jackson did his best, but wasn't able to place.  Angelica was very successful!!! She placed 3rd overall and has qualified for State!  She will compete against the best divers in the state on Friday 2/16 at UT in Austin.   Also, I was named Boys & Girls Dive Coach of the Regional Meet.

I'm very proud of all of my athletes.  They worked so hard all year long and it showed this weekend!!!   I want to thank everyone for all of their support.  My parents are the best and the send off was amazing and meant so much to the kids.  Congratulate them when you see them on an amazing season and wish Angelica good luck on her upcoming State meet!

The 7th Green team played Badgers of Lampasas on Thursday and won 30-27. These young man played very well this time and stayed in control of the game, by being patient on offense and aggressive on defense. We did a much better job of rebounding which made a huge difference overall. These young men are very competitive and that is what makes coaching them a privilege.
The Dogs will be playing the ponies of Marble Falls away next Thursday.

The 8th grade green team played a good Lampasas team on Thursday. The Dogs played a very well defensively and gave us the oppurtunity to stay close. But, not making the most of oppurtunities when needed kept us from closing the gap. These young men never quit and play hard all the time. I am proud of these young men. The Dawgs Traveled to Lampasas tonight, and it was a close one.
Sadly we lost but gave amazing effort to come back and make it close.
Mason Jones hit 2 big 3 pointers to cut the lead down and gave us a shot.
We are getting better each week, and making the 2nd half of district tough
on our competiton. This is a great group of boys, and love to watch them
grow everyday.
